Asplund began in 1990 as a gallery, founded by brothers Michael and Thomas Asplund to exhibit furniture as limited-edition art objects. As the gallery's reputation grew, Sandra Adrian Asplund joined as creative director in 1995 — the same year Edition Asplund launched, and the brand moved to its current home at Sibyllegatan 31 in Stockholm.
Asplund's design philosophy favors natural materials that age well over time — what the brand itself calls "Friendly Minimalism," a warmer reading of Swedish restraint, built around pieces meant to last.
"Our vision has always been clean, functional, elegant lines and proportional volumes with a quality that lasts and never goes out of style. An interesting and good contemporary design, that you should be able to like as long as it lasts. Good design for us is a product that you can use and combine to almost any style, it should be obvious as if it has always been there. We put a big effort in making our furniture and carpets. Details are made with the uttermost attention, materials chosen because they are the most suitable and durable for that special item."

Asplund furniture has been made in Sweden since the company's founding in 1990, keeping production as local as possible in support of Swedish craft and industry. Many pieces call on several small, specialized factories, each focused on a particular part of the process, brought together into a single finished piece.
About Asplund Collection
For over three decades, Asplund has developed new designs with both first-time graduates and some of Sweden's most established names, alongside international designers — resulting in a collection spanning carpets, storage, tables, and more. The result is functional, quietly elegant, and as much at home in Sweden as anywhere else.
Each piece is made largely by hand, in small or semi-manual production runs, built to order rather than stocked in advance — a practice that avoids overproduction and keeps output matched to real demand. Materials and methods are chosen for standards that improve with age, the same discipline applied throughout the collection.
