Biblioteket Rug

Designed by Emma Olbers 2018, for the Old Library at Stockholm's Nationalmuseum.

Biblioteket — Swedish for "the library" — takes its pattern directly from Olbers' initial sketches of the room: three arches and three large windows at the top, rows of books from the old shelves through the middle, and the newly laid oak parquet flooring at the bottom.

Hand-knotted in a Tibetan Thin technique — the same knot as a traditional Tibetan rug, cut thinner and more delicately, suited to detailed pattern and color work.

Made from a 50% New Zealand wool, 50% Tencel blend. Tencel a natural fiber from fast-growing forests, 95% biodegradable — adds extra vividness and luster.
