Biblioteket Rug
Biblioteket Rug
Designed by Emma Olbers 2018 for the Old Library in the renowned Stockholm National Museum.
"Biblioteket" means "the library" in Swedish. This hand-knotted rug features a design that combines Emma's initial sketches of the Old Library. The design includes three arches and three large windows at the top, the middle rows of books on the old bookshelf, and the newly laid oak parquet at the bottom.
Biblioteket is a finely hand-knotted Tibetan Thin with a mix of 50% (New Zealand) wool and 50% Tencel™. Tencel™ is a natural fiber from fast-growing forests and is 95% biodegradable.
The Tibetan Thin knotted rugs have the same type of knot as the Tibetan rugs, but they are slightly thinner with a shorter pile and more delicate cut. They are very well suited for design patterns and color mixes.

Asplund's rugs are woven, knotted, or tufted by hand by skilled craftsmen, making each rug unique. Asplund uses superior-quality New Zealand wool as the primary material. The wool is rich in natural fats that give the rugs a beautiful luster while also providing good protection against stains. In some designs, Asplund also combines wool with Tencel for a characteristic look and feel.

Hand Made & Fair Trade
Asplund has been producing their beautiful rugs working with the same family-owned factory in Mirzapur, India for over 25 years. It is a factory that cares deeply for its employees and their families. Everything is made by hand; from the wool dyed and then tufted, knotted, or woven by hand into beautiful rugs using the finest yarns and techniques.
They are crafted from sustainable natural fiber and proudly embrace Fair Trade practices. The factory is socially engaged, against child labor and pro-education. All purchases benefit local schools in the weavers’ villages and the yarn leftovers are used to make warm vests for homeless children in the colder parts of India.
