David Ericsson
David Ericsson grew up in Småland and now lives in Stockholm. He graduated in furniture design from Carl Malmsten Furniture School in 2010, and today runs his own studio while teaching at his former school.
Ericsson's first chair for Gärsnäs, Madonna, began with an invitation to represent Sweden in a Nordic exhibition marking the centenary of the Danish designer Hans J. Wegner, where he was asked to design a chair for his own era. Madonna went on to win Residence Magazine's Furniture of the Year in 2015. He has since designed several more pieces for Gärsnäs, including Petite, Hedwig, and Hedda.
His Petite chair won Sweden's place in the Nordic Sustainable Chairs competition, organized by Svensk Form and the Nordic Council of Ministers — the jury noting its resource efficiency, at just 2.5 kilograms.
