Ateljé was designed in 2018 for Ateljén, the main dining hall of the newly renovated Nationalmuseum in Stockholm. Its form takes inspiration from the tools and workbenches of an artist's studio, built to adapt from an intimate lunch to a full banquet.
The Ateljé Table's rounded ends invite conversation — even two people can sit together at one end — and its extendable top seats ten at full length, rather than the standard eight.
A sturdy, adjustable beam, built on two tracks — one shaping the table's silhouette, the other preventing sag — keeps it stable even fully extended. The beam locks with a rounded, cog-shaped knob, easy to grip, drawn from the same workshop tools that inspired the table itself.
"Functionalism is my way of thinking. I always start with what is reasonable and practical. For me, the table should be the room's hub; it must provide stability and strength."
